It’s January 30, 2017, the official LAUNCH DAY of the blog! Yaaaay!
Welcome to 3 AM Mea, the parenting site that blends signs of pop culture with the accounts of my 3-year-old toddler, Jrue (pronounced “Drew”), and my baby, Jai (rhymes with “eye”). This amalgam is something that happens naturally when my brain wakes up nightly (morning-ly?) around 3 a.m. If I allow my thoughts a hot rampage, I can chew copiously, for example, on my children’s latest milestones, which can run into how many miles I should walk in a week and end up on the jazz of Miles Davis. It doesn’t take much for my mind to remain alert for hours for no reason, which can be frustrating for a parent who is already sleep-deprived.
The blog has grown to several posts since it’s January 1, 2017 inception.
“Why didn’t you officially launch the site on January 1, Mea?” Excellent question. Many steps go into fully functioning and testing a website (I learned…), which I wanted to do in the background while my audience was busily getting adjusted to a new year (and those, ahem, resolutions).
Additionally, I chose January 30 as Launch Day specifically because January is my husband’s month of birth, and “30” represents adding 4/13 and 6/7, my children’s months and days of birth. I was born on the 30th of November. Since mommy was “birthing” a blog, it felt only right that there was some depth underneath there somewhere.
I wanted to first feature some starter stories to show my site visitors what to expect from me as a woman mommy writer. I will remain authentic to these snapshots of both the troubles and the delights my children exalt on their parents. The posts on the site currently include:
- Picky eating and my kid
- How (not) to be a perfect mother
- My toddler’s “stealing”
- Thoughts behind birthing a daughter
- My son’s relationship with our vacuum cleaner
- Mommy as Godzilla
- Parents’ social media usage; and
- Perhaps why our children’s socks go missing in the house.
Feel free to grab a coffee and have a read, or read on a tablet in the carpool line, or peruse late at night after the kids finally get to bed. The blog was developed for new and seasoned parents who are fans of narrative-style humor and readers who don’t mind a bit of light analyses of popular culture symbolism, which is not necessarily seen in a conversational blog format. I explore parenthood as a culture, a topic for anyone with a warm openness to examining new or established ideas.
I hope to let parents know that there is at least one more mom out here who is also awake and wondering the same thing: “Am I going crazy?” Yes. Yes, we’re all going crazy. But…together.
During Launch Week, January 30-February 4, 2017, there will be a fresh story posted each day, starting with “Playing in a Potty Training Championship” on Launch Day. Posts will then resume a regular appearance schedule of every Monday and Friday of each week.
I thrill in being able to connect with readers, so feel free to click that “Contact” link on the homepage, or simply comment at the bottom of any of the posts. I respond on the same day. Even subscribe, if you’d like, or share through any of the social media widgets at the bottom of each post and in my site’s sidebar.
I cannot thank my visitors enough for experiencing my writing. This dream has been one coming for some time, but I did not have the confidence to create again until recently. My husband and I thank you for tuning into our laughs and our confusions!
